Curumin:
During the 1970s in São Paulo, Curumin and his older brother began their journey through the world's music, from Jorge Ben to Devo to Bebeto, and beyond, shaping his musical tastes for the future. Born in Brazil to Spanish and Japanese parents, Luciano Nakata Albuquerque earned the nickname, Curumin—a term reserved by indigenous Brazilians for their more precocious children.
His style is sometimes called samba-funk, which incorporates many jazz, bossa nova, and hip hop elements as well. His first album, Achados E Perdidos, was released on DJ Shadow’s Quannum Projects label.
DJ Jose De Jesus:
Marked by his anonymity, Jose De Jesus background and origins are clouded in mystery. Some have mentioned an upbringing in the slums of Rio De Janeiro while others have alluded to stories of him working as a roadie for Fela Kuti’s Egypt 80. This anonymity has begotten many claims about De Jesus, most being hard to substantiate or verify. Suspicions persist that his musical maturation started as a DJ during the late 70's punk scene and then shifted towards jazz, world-beat and rare grooves. His DJ performances are quite rare and have ranged from influences as diverse as Serge Gainsbourg, Banda Black Rio, Cymande, Weldon Irvine & The Velvet Underground.
