LET'S TALK
A night of good spirits & public conversation (2 of 2)
The hour of transformation is always at hand. We as individuals and members of our respective communities and the larger world body have the opportunity to make things better. On Saturday, February 17th, from 6 - 9 PM at Sonotheque nightclub Chicago, join the conversation as we introduce a pair of lads who are making transformation happen for the better in their own ways. It will be a night of music, sound alternatives, infotainment, and good spirits & public conversation.
CHAD BLISS :: COBCONNECTION :: CHICAGO
Chad Bliss began his social justice track as a tenant organizer, assisting tenants who lived in Section 8 housing to form tenant unions. He continued his career integrating environmental justice into his work, organizing at a community level with Native American communities and border towns building straw bale houses. Currently, he integrates both social justice and environmental justice into his community organizing. He teaches communities how to grow healthy food and build sound, healthy homes and structures using an alternative building material called Cob (a sand, clay, and straw mixture that has been in usage for thousands of years in various climates). Chad understands that community democracy is a key element in empowering communities to look critically at the forms of power and control that exist over our current food system and affordable housing policies. And that learning to grow, learning to build, and learning to organize on a neighborhood level creates local sustainablility.
Chad will be on hand to discuss his work. Included in the program will be an eight-minute video presentation.
MICHAEL KUSZYNSKI :: PLANE RECORDINGS :: CHICAGO/NEW YORK
Oh, it's the usual story: Boy grows up in communist Poland in the 80s, leaves Poland for the USA, becomes a computer geek at the age of 11, begins fiddling with analogue synthesizers, earns an Economics degree at The University of Chicago, pulls in 15-hour workdays at Deutsche Bank, and at the end of 2006 finishes his first electronica album which is released in January 2007.
Michael Kuszynski will be on hand to celebrate the release of his first full-length album, Early Collected Works . It isn't every day that someone produces an intelligent, fun, snappy, and stimulating electronica album. And we'll be on hand to hear him and it.
Moderator & Host : Mexican-American Author Luis Gabriel Aguilera (Gabriel's Fire, The University of Chicago Press, 2000)
