The Chicago Psychotronic Film Society, Tiger Beer, Tartan Video and Sonotheque are pleased to continue the film series ASIAN EXTREME: THE HIDDEN SIDE OF ASIAN SINEMA with THE GHOST on Saturday, April 28. Recently acquired by Dimension Films for a US remake, THE GHOST aka DEAD FRIEND goes for the jugular with its over-the-top scares and terrifying moments. Boasting an ingenious sound design and creepy cinematography, THE GHOST continues in the steps of recent Asian extreme films like Ringu and A Tale of Two Sisters.

THE GHOST marks the debut feature of director Kim Tae-kyeong. A bright young student, Ji-won is scarred by an event from her past which leaves her without any memories. Unsure of her identity, she begins to piece together fragments from her past when old friends mysteriously start dying. Discovering a hidden alliance with three other girls, she is haunted by terrifying visions during her waking hours. As more friends continue to die, she is drawn closer to the mystery that connects her past with her present.

ASIAN EXTREME – THE HIDDEN SIDE OF ASIAN SINEMA highlights the most daring and cutting-edge exploitation films from Japan, Korea, Hong Kong and all of Asia. Always innovative and ever inventive, Asian extreme films with their unrelenting pace and stylized visuals push the boundaries of decorum in directions other films rarely take.

So watch your back, repeat to yourself that it’s only a movie but be prepared for the unknown. You must be 21 to attend!

Tiger Beer is also kind enough to supply free Asian treats during the film. There will be free giveaways from Tartan Video at the end of the screening.

‘Asian Extreme’ is hosted by Mike Flores of the Chicago Psychotronic Film Society and all the films in the series were selected by Joe Bryl, co-owner and musical director of Sonotheque. For further information contact info@sonotheque.net or 312-226-7600.
