On Thursday, September 4th, Braziliance @ Sonotheque presents “Independencia” – a celebration of Brazilian Independence with a night full of Brazilian Beats often heard reverberating throughout open-air stadiums or Rio shanties. Brazil claimed its independence from Portugal on September 7th, 1822. The symbol of this event was Prince Pedro's cry at the edge of the Ipiranga river of "By my blood, by my honour, and by God: I will make Brazil free." Then he cried "It is time! Independence or Death! We are separated from Portugal". Those words constituted Brazil's Proclamation of Independence. The "Independence or Death" cry would become the motto of the Brazilian emancipation and Prince Perdo would in turn become the first Emperor of Brazil.
Noted DJ/Maestro Joe Bryl forges a bass heavy, beat driven cocktail of Samba, Soul and Hip-hop beats creating a kaleidoscopic soundscape mirroring the vibrant and varied energy of life throughout Brazil. The music serves as both a testament to the Brazilian resilience and a document of their demons. Dancing on tables is not required – but expect an evening soundtrack of earthy, hip grinding and booty-bouncing blasts no one can resist.
